"Feeding the World Starts with Feeding Just One

Meet Our Founder:

Mr. Charles E. Simmons the eldest grandson of our name sake Mrs. Doris Wilson

Our Story:

Doris Pantry is a 501(c)(3) Charitable Food Donation Service located in Indianapolis, Indiana. This mission was founded in November of 2012 by Charles Simmons, oldest grandson of our organization’s namesake, Doris Wilson. Charles grew up watching his grandmother open her home, her heart, and her dining table to an extensive variety of people. Never caring what you looked like, who your friends were, or why you did or did not have. All Doris knew was that if someone was hungry, she should feed them.

Today, we continue to embody the beliefs and spirit of Mrs. Doris Wilson within the mission of the Doris Pantry Corporation. Helping feed those without the resources to feed themselves. Doing this without prejudice, blame, persecution, or risking the loss of their dignity. Eliminating the traditionally implemented guidelines for food assistance for the purpose of extending our services to the 11.9% of working Indiana residents at or below the federal poverty threshold, and the 72.1% of Hoosier families whose working income is less than 1 1/2 times that.

Through the efforts of Doris Pantry Inc. and its community partners, we can and will successfully continue Mrs. Wilson’s legacy of feeding the world, which starts with feeding just one! God Bless!

Isaiah 58:6-8

6: and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? 7: and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter– when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? 8: Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

Call To Action:

The working poor of Indiana have been forgotten. 182,000 of our residents fall between the gaps of federal and state assistance programs, yet they have dedicated themselves to occupations with a median annual pay at or below the federal poverty thresholds (roughly $15, 400) for individuals and families of four. Bringing home wages that are lower than all of our neighboring states and have been in a steady decline (lowered by 6.5% since 2009) for over a decade in Indiana. In turn, these standards have largely contributed to the 21% increase in homelessness in Indiana (estimated between 4,800 and 8,000 residents) since 2010.

For these reasons, Doris Pantry Inc. caters to the homeless and working poor in Indiana. Desperately striving to provide nutritionally balanced meals and food services to those who truly deserve the aid that our government assistance programs have systematically disqualified them for, and those already beaten by a system that routinely offers poverty level jobs to Indiana residents with everything from a high school diploma to master’s degree levels of education.

Join our mission to feed those who cannot feed themselves. With your help we can give the working poor and destitute of our community the strength needed to continue their fight. Afford children the ability to dream about their futures rather than the next time they will eat. Provide the pillars of our society a little relief in the task of keeping up with the economy’s constantly increasing inflation while under the thumb of Indiana’s steadily decreasing wages.

For every dollar received, Doris Pantry Inc. can feed 2 people in need. Help us keep our overworked and underpaid fed. You don’t have to be a millionaire to be a hero. ‘Feeding The World Starts With Feeding Just One.’
